www.pacificpocker.com – Top five begginers mistakes to online poker

I would have to say my top beginners mistake for online play is to come home after a night at the pub and play whilst intoxicated. That’s not to say you should drink no alcohol at all whilst playing, but try not to get to the stage where your judgement and reads of an opponents hand begin to become impaired. I have seen many players who are clearly making erratic and foolish decisions online late on a Saturday night, and the amount of good work to your bankroll that can be undone is very significant.

Secondly I would say that starting MTT’s when they have other plans in an hour or two’s time is a rather pointless excersise. maybe you do not expect to make it that far into a particular tournament, but you always have to be prepared, and allow enough time to complete a tournament.

Thirdly I would say not taking advantage of the fact you can leave a table when you are angry or frustrated is foolish if you are playing online poker. The multitude of ongoing games and the opportunity to go away and calm down after a terrible beat, then come back later, is one of the definate plus points of online play.

Fourth, is players who enter rebuy tournaments with the ‘tactics’ of pushing all in every hand until they get lucky. That simply isn’t poker. if you want to play a game of pure chance, go and find a bingo site.

Lastly I think that the biggest beginners mistake is to get ahead of themselves after a good few hours on a cash table, and immediately take their entire bankroll to a big stakes table. If you are successful at the level you are playing at, there is no harm at all in continuing to be successful there for as long as you need to. Always make sure your steps up to bigger tables are gradual.
