Pacificpocker.com Review

Posted by Trix @ 12:00 AM, Monday Mar 9th, 2009

In terms of first time deposits, www.pacificpocker.com offer 100% up to an amount of £200. This is around the average offer, and is certainly enough to get your bankroll off on the right foot. There is poker schooling and beginners tables specifically for those new to the game which is far more helpful than simply being thrown in at the deep end.

In terms of promotional offers, pacificpocker.com give more than just their initial cash match bonus, you are also gifted tournament tickets to help start you off. There is a very good player point system in place here too, along with special promotions which are updated regularly to keep players coming back for more. There are qualifiers running to major live events too which shows Pacific also have the serious players in mind. Also there are many other promotional tournaments for those who may not have such lofty targets in mind, and refer a friend bonuses to help boost the bankroll too.

On a more serious note Pacific Poker recently held a charity event onsite, working alongside Shane Warne to raise money for the ‘bushfire relief appeal’. This is excellent to see and shows www.pacificpocker.com is run by generous and kind hearted people.
Pacific Poker continues to make strides forward in what is offers to it’s players, and the relatively good player traffic bears testament to the fact that many players enjoy spending their time and money here.

Poker.co.uk Review

Posted by Trix @ 12:00 AM, Monday Mar 2nd, 2009

As far as first time deposit bonuses go, Poker.co.uk match the industry average in most respects with a 100% bonus paid as you accumulate frequent player points. However they do offer 6 months to clear the required points which is significantly longer than many poker rooms online.

The visual feel of the tables, along with card designs are sharp and look professional I feel. The lobby is easy enough to navigate, and you will find a tournament schedule with enough variety to cater for most players needs. Holdem, Five Card Draw, and Seven card Stud are offered here which provides a certain amount of choice, but the obvious game missing from this list is Omaha.

One particular area where this poker room excels, is it’s informitive nature. Numerous outlets of information and latest news are available, as well as forums for players to discuss topics too. Poker school sections also help provide information for new players, ensuring they have the best possible chance of making a good start.
There are several different varieties of tournament on offer, with Single Table Tournaments, Heads Up Tournaments, and Multi Table Tournaments too. Some tournaments are listed especially for players who have earned a certain number of points, and 500 Euros are given away in freerolls each day.

Overall it would be nice to see slightly more abstract tournament types on offer such as Bounty Tournaments or tournaments with limited rebuys, but overall, I think the majority of players would be pleased with what is on offer. www.poker.co.uk may not be recognised as being among the top names yet, but with hard work and continual improvement they have every chance of being up with the best. poker.co.uk

Ladbrokes poker – Poker Memories

Posted by Trix @ 12:00 AM, Tuesday Feb 24th, 2009

www.ladbrokes.com – Any player that is starting out on their poker playing journey will find that as the months and years begin to pass, you will slowly accumulate memories of this game which will vary from the incredible, to the wonderful. Poker has always been such that when you think your fate is sealed, there is always a chance, as long as there is one card left in the deck to save you. You cannot ever rely on these slim chances by any means, but it is often they, which create some of the most frustrating and joyous moments in poker.

PLAY NOW

My memories of poker are fond and numerous, spanning seven years, and include early games being played on park benches (windy days were a nightmare), through to playing in college, and then on to playing regular live tournaments.
There are hands from even those earliest days that I can still recall now, and that is part of the wonder of the game for me. There is a more serious side to poker memories of course, and that is the fact that they form the very basis of our skill improvements.

Lessons always seem to be better remembered when they are learned the hard way I find, and poker sometimes seems to even enjoy teaching it’s lessons the hard way. The fact of the matter is though, that every bad session playing poker, will always be able to teach you something about how to improve. You have to really try and take the positives out of the situation in poker by examining, and improving upon, the negative sides to your game. Ladbrokes Poker

Celeb pocker – Tyes of Tournament in Online Poker

Posted by Trix @ 12:00 AM, Monday Feb 16th, 2009

www.celebpocker.com – With the growth of internet poker, has come many varieties of game on offer. By this I do not mean games which are different in their fundamental rules, but different formats of the same games we all know and love. I particularly found the bounty tournaments an innovative idea, with prizes being paid for the number of people you eliminate rather than how long you survive.

PLAY NOW

This encourages a proactive game as opposed to a passive one and can be very enjoyable to play in. Other types of tournament available these days include the traditional MMT and STT, sometimes with twists thrown in such as rebuys, whether free or requiring further financial input. In terms of free rebuys, I was involved in a game today where each player could rebuy twice for no cost at whatever point in the game they wished, regardless of how many chips they had. This gives a chance to give yourself a full stack of 3,000 chips to work with from the start, or to hold back your two rebuys for when you need them most.

Online play has also brought with it tournaments which award prizes of seats in bigger tournaments, until you have one final game with a considerable prize pool.

All these interesting new developments in poker games continue to grow further, as poker rooms strive to offer a type of tournament to suit everyones tastes. Along with the aforementioned tournament types, freerolls have also been a very helpful to new players, giving them a chance to rebuild a small bankroll if they run out of funds. Celebpocker.com

Ladbrokespoker.com – Accepting Losses

Posted by Trix @ 12:00 AM, Thursday Jan 22nd, 2009

www.ladbrokespoker.com – When considering this in it’s broadest sense, poker players will always have days or sessions where they lose money, and this is quite normal. You should be prepared for this and always bear in mind that your aim is to win more than you lose, rather than winning every hand you play.

PLAY NOW

It is important to remain emotionally detached from any big losses you incur, and if you are playing winning poker in general, continue playing that way regardless of any bad sessions you might occasionally have.
Although we always want to be increasing our bankroll as players, these times when we take a loss should not be overly troubling. If the amount of money you have lost is more than you can afford to, then you need to start playing for less money on smaller tables to build your bankroll up.

On a more localised level, there will be points during any given hand where you have invested some money into a pot, and found yourself in a position where you feel you are behind in the hand. Sometimes attempting a wild bluff will work, but most of the time, you’re going to cost yourself money doing this. Try not to chase hands that will cost you too much to do so, and always be prepared to let your hand go if you feel you are beaten. this is something which less skilled players always seem to have trouble with, often blinded by the apparent strength of their hand.

Ladbrokes poker – Textbook Play

Posted by Trix @ 12:00 AM, Tuesday Jan 6th, 2009

Ladbrokespoker.com – There is a certain way of playing poker that I like to call ‘textbook play’ and many players use this to good effect. For the most part, there is nothing wrong with playing this way, and the only problem is that you become predictable.

PLAY NOW

Playing textbook poker to me, is never bluffing at a pot fully, tester bets when it is checked round at most. Also this type of player will always raise when they hit a hand, no matter how well they hit. Everything they do is carefully worked out as the right or wrong play, and as a result, they never have any real variance. As I said before, this is no bad thing in some circumstances, but if you play the same players each week, I think you weaken yourself because you always do the same things for the same reasons. Personally, I prefer to mix up my play as much as possible without being reckless or foolish.

Sometimes if I hit well, I will slow play my hand, sometimes I’ll move all in, and I have been known to raise preflop with (7,8) suited, and limp in with (A,A) provided there are only two players behind me. The aim of this is of course to leave players feeling that I could have almost anything, in any given situation. I feel that is a key aspect of poker, and one which ‘textbook’ players lack in their game.

Ladbrokes poker – Side Games

Posted by Trix @ 12:00 AM, Tuesday Dec 30th, 2008

Ladbrokespoker – Side games are referred to sometimes in relation to players at the WSOP, and can be very lucrative for the best players around. They usually involve cash games being played for high stakes, in between, or after other events have finished, but they are not exclusive to Las Vegas.

PLAY NOW

There are other types of sidegame played, with small scale tournaments sometimes starting up once players have been eliminated from the bigger game itself. This is something we managed to set up at our local game on Saturday, but the difference was that we were playing Omaha, and for a small buy in fee. The reason for this is that it would be good to introduce some of the players to this new game, and a smaller buy in fee might attract some interest to those who come over to observe the game.

I was lucky enough to win our little side tournament, but the main thing for me, was that we got several players interested. Playing a different game on the side can make a welcome change for players, and having any sort of side game at all makes for a more enjoyable evening I feel.

Rather than sitting at the bar wondering what went wrong in the main tournament, I would much rather be playing another game, even if the stakes aren’t all that high. You can introduce side games in home games too of course, and they are especially good for those reckless players who go out of the tournament early. In my opinion it is the best way to give players a way to carry on playing poker, without having to make the main tournament a re buy event.

Celebpocker – Poker Magazines

Posted by Trix @ 12:00 AM, Tuesday Dec 16th, 2008

www.celebpocker.com – With the emerging popularity of televised poker tournaments, recent years have brought a host of poker magazines to the shelves of shops too. There is one such magazine that I purchase regularly, and I find this is a great opportunity to catch up with all the big news from the poker world.

PLAY NOW

Unless you check up on poker news websites regularly of course, it is difficult to know how the big live events on the other side of the world are going, and which players are emerging triumphant. Poker magazines provide a great insight into all this, but they also offer expert opinions on many aspects of the game. Teams of players/writers who detail their weeks poker playing experiences, provide others with a way to compare their own tactics, and examine the rights and wrongs of particular situations.

There are also often interviews conducted with the latest champions of the game, which makes for great reading too. You can find out what goes through the mind of someone on a final table at such an event, and also how they deal with adversity and transform it into an eventual victory. Another good point about these magazines, is that they seem to maintain a good balance of online play and live tournament goings on.

These magazines are on offer at reasonable prices, and the ones I have read myself certainly make worthwhile reading for aspiring poker players.

Pacificpocker.com – Recent Tournaments

Posted by Trix @ 12:00 AM, Friday Dec 5th, 2008

www.pacificpocker.com – The good form which came around so suddenly a couple of weeks ago, certainly seems to have faded a little, with 8th place on Saturday, and worse still this evening. Through this slight loss of form on the Holdem front however, I managed to win an Omaha tournament online, which goes to show how a change of game can bring changes in results.

PLAY NOW

As for last nights Holdem game, the key error I made was after one hand, in which a player in late position put a strong bet out after it had been checked round, picking up the pot and showing a weak middle pair. On the very next hand almost exactly the same thing happened, with a similar raise from the same player, and I decided to put in a big reraise.

He called, and foolishly I bet out big on the turn as well. I hit top pair on the river but by this point I knew I was beaten and checked it down, being shown a flopped two pair by my opponent. I should have known that after showing his weak pair on the previous hand, he wouldn’t do the same thing again with a weak hand. After managing to double up, I pushed my still short stack in preflop, with (A,A), and got no callers.

The very next hand was (10,10) and I shoved again preflop, this time being called by (Ah,Qh). The Ace hit on the river unfortunately, and it was all over. Hopefully I can make up for things on Saturday when the next tournament comes around, but in the meantime I shall stick to the Omaha online tournaments.

Ladbrokes Poker – WSOP Main Event Champion

Posted by Trix @ 12:00 AM, Thursday Nov 20th, 2008

ladbrokespoker – After much waiting and wondering, we finally got to find out who our WSOP main event champion would be, as the game played out over November the 9th and 10th. Peter Eastgate was the man who emerged victor after a heads up battle with WSOPE main event 3rd place finisher Ivan Demidov. His achievement was remarkable seeing as nobody had ever made the final table of both these major events.

Ivan finished in the top 3 in both, and in the same year. Peter Eastgate, as champion at 22 years old, breaks Phil Hellmuths 19 year record of the youngest ever WSOP main event champion.

Craig Marquis was the first to fall, finishing 9th place. Kelly Kim followed in 8th, each picking up $900,670 and $1,288,217 respectively. David ‘chino’ Rheem was 7th, and picked up $1,772,650 for his troubles. 6th place was Darus Suharto for a prize of $2,418,562. Scott Montgomery was the final non Pokerstars sponsored player to finish, with a prize of $3,096,768 for 5th. 4th place was Ylon Scwartz for a payday of $3,774,974, and 3rd place was Dennis Phillips who took home $4,517,773.

After a total 274 hands at this final table, Demidov managed to turn a (2,4) into two pair on the turn of the final hand. Little did he know that Eastgate holding (A,5) had made a wheel on the same card and as you would imagine, there was no getting away for a short stacked Demidov. He picked up $5,809 595 for 2nd place, and by anyones stanards, has had a great year. It was Eastgates day however, and he will be written into the history books after an intrueging final table, walking away with a fabulous $9,152,416 for 1st place. Roll on next year.
