On the whole you would have to say that there is a huge amount of support for all the best players, from within the online poker community at ladbrokespoker.com.

Many players have their own favourite players, and follow their progress in big events. I don’t know if you could quite call these people ladbrokespoker ‘groupies’ or even those people who turn up at the World Series to watch the action, and the players at work.

It is certainly good to see these www.ladbrokespoker.com players getting support and encouragement from the crowds, and it’s good for poker I think, for players to have heroes of the game to aspire to. I think the type of people you would call ‘groupies’ haven’t infiltrated the poker scene on a large scale, perhaps partly because poker hasn’t infiltrated the everyday lives of the people on a large scale.

Sure, you could say that it has grown a larger following over the years, especially recently, but not on anywhere near the scale of rock bands in earlier years who first set the trend of having ‘groupies’. It is possible that as poker continues to grow at Ladbrokes poker, you might find bands of poker players who go to nearby events where their favourite player is entered.

But for the most part online poker events are held at venues all over the world, and the internet makes it possible to follow a players progress without having to travel around to watch them play. For these reasons I think it unlikely that poker players will ever have groupies in the same way as bands used to.

But they will, I’m sure, maintain some sort following and support in other forms worldwide, and that is a great thing to see.
