celebpocker – Tips for online poker

One of the most important aspects of online play I feel, is to always try and test yourself as much as possible. You could be sat at a very small stakes cash game and be winning small amounts of money every night, but you won’t be improving all that much as a player. Whenever you are winning consistently at one level, look to move up to the next. That doesn’t necessarily just mean in terms of higher buy ins, but the type of tournament or ring game you play in.

I personally like to play in MTT’s with no rebuys. This is because when every player knows that one mistake could be their last, they tend to play their best poker, and that can only be good for your learning curve.
It is also important in any type of poker to choose when to make your stands carefully. never call simply because you might be being bluffed, or because a player has won money from you in a previous hand, you must deal with each hand on it’s individual merits. If you play a lot of MTT’s like myself, be sure to play an occasional STT as well. this ensures that you remain sharp when it comes to short handed play, as you tend to not get this type of experience often in MTT’s. I would also advise trying different varieties of poker sometimes too, as it is easy to let your concentration slide if you are playing the same type of game all day. Sometimes coming back to a game after playing something different for a few hours can bring a different approach and level of concentration.

Overall, be sure to never use online play as a substitute for the real thing if you want to be successful at poker. Real play is different from sitting behind a computer screen, and helps your development greatly in my opinion.
