www.pacificpocker.com – Winning a hand of poker is a wonderful feeling, whether you have bluffed your way to the pot, or won it on the merit of your cards. Much of it is about timing of course, and the ability to discern the strength of an opponents hand, but good luck will always help too.

Any hand can technically end up winning a pot by the time the river is flipped over, but as serious players and students of the game, most of us only play stronger hands preflop. the reason for this that poker is in many ways a game of percentages. We can only go into a pot feeling we are a statistical favourite and use our experience to play on from there. Sometimes players will put their chips in with the worst of it preflop and win, and as a player you should never be openly irritated with your opponents. If they make what is in your opinion a poor play, and end up winning the pot, that is the game we play. It just happens that way sometimes, and reacting to your losses with good grace is the sign of a gentleman, and a talented player, because you know in the long run you will get the best of players who make poor plays.
In general, each player at the table will win the same amount of hands as another, if the hand turn face up and play out every time. But the skill of the game lies not in putting your chips in and hoping. The skill of the game, is picking up pots when your opponent is uncertain of a fairly good hand, and maximising profits from the hand when you know you have the best hand out there. If you can do this successfully, it won’t just be hands you are winning, but tournaments too.

www.celebpocker.com – Knowing where the game of poker started is difficult to pinpoint, as the game has been developed and has evolved for centuries. We can however look at the earliest recordings of a similar game being played and map it’s progress from there.

The earliest recordings of a game which is close to the poker we know today are from the writings of Chinese emperor Mu Tsung, who apparently played a game called ‘domino cards’ with his wife around 1,000 years ago. Fragments of painted pieces of stone have also been discovered, which might have been used in some sort of game with rankings for the best combination’s.
Centuries after this, a game is recorded to have been played by the Persians called ‘As Nas’. This game was clearly recorded as having 25 cards and being played with some sort of hand rankings for the best combination’s of cards. For me, this is the first real form of poker.
The game eventually evolved towards the game of today in France, after different versions of card games began spreading through Europe. This french card game was called ‘Poche’ and used different symbols depicting suits, with the hearts, spades, clubs, and diamonds being accepted as the norm.
From there, French settlers in Canada brought the game with them, and after the founding of New Orleans, the game sprung forth there too. From here the game spread to the rest of America, as people travelled up and down the Mississippi on riverboats, playing what was now known as ‘Poker’.

Poker.com, or Carbon Poker as it is now known, has an appealing set of bonuses running onsite, which are definately worth checking out if you haven’t yet done so. Their first time cash match bonus of 100% up to an amount of $500 is for starters, a competitive offer, and this start up money can always be supplemented by their vast number of ongoing freerolls too. In terms of graphics, I have to say that the table background and design looks sleek and professional. Perhaps they are not quite as sharp as the best of the best in this field, but they are certainly to my liking.

If there is one area where Carbon Poker really scores top marks for me, it is the variety of games they offer. I personally love a variety of games on a poker site and the list of games at Carbon poker is very impressive. 5 Card Stud, 7 Card Stud with hi/lo, Omaha also with optional hi/lo, Holdem, Razz, two varieties of Lowball, HORSE games, Badugi, 5 Card Draw, and even a game called Euchre, which I must admit, I have never even heard of.
There are also bad beat jackpots in operation at Carbon, alongside satellites to great land based tournaments, and many guaranteed tournaments too.
I also like the way Carbon have offered live support to players, and in general terms, really see this site going from strength to strength.
I find myself liking a great deal about Carbon poker and I would definately recommend them to anyone looking to try out a new poker site, or indeed their first one.

Ladbrokes have a colourful array of promotions going on at the moment, the first which caught my eye was the ‘Golf and Poker Day’ they have coming up on September 22nd. This involves a round of golf, an evening meal and a poker tournament, with additional starting chips awarded for the more successful players on the golf course. This looks an enjoyable day out, with professional dealers being supplied for the tournament in the evening.
